I am a director of Game, Set & Matchplay and have a Bsc with honours in  Sport and Recreation Management from the University of Edinburgh. Since finishing University in 2010 I have pursued my passion in tennis working as a full time tennis coach. I am the current Tennis Professional at Magdalen College School and Senior Club Coach at Oxford Sports LTC.

As my client base increased, I saw the need for more local tennis tournaments for the players I was coaching to enter. Local players were having to travel several hours to find suitable tournaments. There was simply not enough local provision for Oxfordshire players. Having spoken about this with Tom Francis, now Co-Director of Game, Set & Matchplay, we decided to attain our ABTO Official qualifications and attend to the needs of local players. We initially set up a handful of tournaments and it became clear that players were enjoying the events and parents were grateful to be able to access local tournaments. We then decided to pursue this further and set up Game, Set & Matchplay.

We now run over 100 LTA sanctioned events a year for junior players aged 8U-18U and adults across several stunning venues within Oxfordshire. We are one of the largest tennis tournament providers in the East region and pride ourselves on being well organised and approachable individuals who have a focus on providing quality tennis services to the tennis community.

Game, Set & Matchplay Co-Director: Tom Francis

Tom Francis PictureI have been involved in the tennis industry since 2005 both as a tennis coach and referee. After graduating from University, I spent a year working abroad with Tennis Australia in Melbourne where my job responsibility included increasing participation across the state of Victoria.

Since 2011, David and I have collaborated to help players transition from a coaching programme into competitive tournaments sanctioned by the LTA. I believe that for players to maximize their improvement they must be involved in coaching while competing in a comprehensive, year round tournament schedule.

The company has grown rapidly in the last few years and we strive to expand in the coming years while focusing on our core values of delivering high quality and affordable tennis services. My main roles within the company are to referee grade 3-6 events, deliver coach education courses and to acquire additional venue partners to our portfolio.

If you feel your venue could benefit from any of our services whether that is formal or informal competition or hosting coach education courses for your members please do not hesitate to contact us. I look forward to welcoming you to an event or course soon.
